This tour is one of the few truly authentic Costa Rican cultural experiences you can enjoy in our area, and that's one of the reasons it's also one of my favorites. As a Costa Rican, I'm incredibly proud of our culture, and I love that there's an experience where we can share it with the people who visit us.
Throughout the tour, you'll get a firsthand look at what life in the countryside has been like for generations. A way of living deeply connected to the land, where families grow their own food, raise animals, and make use of the farm's resources in their everyday lives. It's an opportunity to appreciate the work that goes into producing your own food and the beauty of a simpler, more self-sufficient lifestyle.
One of the most interesting parts is visiting the trapiche, a traditional sugarcane mill where sugarcane is processed to produce what we call tapa dulce in Costa Rica, a traditional form of unrefined cane sugar. For many years, it was one of the main ways people sweetened their coffee and prepared traditional drinks. Besides learning how it's made, you'll also get to taste it alongside a delicious traditional Costa Rican breakfast, prepared with ingredients from the farm itself. It's the OG farm to table.
Another great part of the experience is getting to know the farm animals and learning about dairy farming, including the opportunity to watch and participate in milking the cows, an activity that has been part of everyday life for many rural Costa Rican families for generations.
Personally, I believe experiencing a country's culture is an essential part of any trip. And while Santa Teresa has so many incredible things to offer, traditional Costa Rican culture isn't always as present as some of us would like it to be.
My Recommendation: If you want to discover a more traditional side of Costa Rica, learn about our roots, and experience firsthand how families in this region have lived for generations, this tour is an excellent choice. It's a cultural experience I highly recommend and one that makes me proud to share. As we say in Costa Rica, ¡Qué matiz! (what a vibe!)
