The Tortuga Island tour is a great option for anyone looking to spend an entire day out at sea, enjoying something different, whether you're traveling with family, friends, as a couple, or even on your own. It's one of those tours that's perfect for disconnecting, taking in the scenery, and spending a full day between the boat, the ocean, and the beach.
Personally, my favorite part has always been the boat ride. The journey to the island is quite long, but that's actually part of what makes the experience special. Along the way, both going to and returning from the island, there's a chance of spotting dolphins, sea turtles, and even whales during whale-watching season. I've been lucky enough to see these animals many times during the trip, and those encounters have been some of my favorite moments of the entire tour.
One thing I always like to mention before recommending this tour is that Tortuga Island has become a pretty popular tourist destination. Some days, you arrive and there's hardly anyone around, while on other days, several tour companies arrive at the same time and the island can get quite crowded.
Other than that, I think it's a really beautiful tour and a great way to spend the day doing something different.
My Recommendation: Rather than thinking of Tortuga Island as just the destination, I recommend the entire experience as a full day out at sea. For me, the boat ride, the scenery, and the chance to encounter marine wildlife along the way are what truly make this tour worth it.

The tour starts at Tambor Pier, where you meet your captain and guide and cross the Gulf of Nicoya to Tortuga Island.
The snorkeling spots depend on the day's conditions and can include Rainbow Rock and a sunken ship. After snorkeling, you have free time on Tortuga Island.
